CHRISSY Rouse scored his best ever Bennetts British Superbike Championship result when he crossed the line 10th at Thruxton.

In just his third round in the UK’s premier motorcycle racing series, the Halsall Racing Suzuki rider grabbed his first top 10 finish in Sunday’s opening race at the Hampshire track.

The young Geordie had qualified 15th ahead of Sunday’s first race, and after a good start was up to 10th position by the end of lap three.

Rouse finished 10th in the first race of the weekend…

He remained within the top 10 for the rest of the race, moving as high as eighth at one point as he enjoyed a tussle with two of the series’ other young riders, eventually taking his first ever BSB top 10 as the flag fell at the end of 20 laps. He was also first Suzuki home, beating the factory team.

But his hopes of bettering his result in the afternoon’s second race were dashed after a first lap crash at Cobb. Although he was stretchered away from the scene, he walked back to the garage uninjured.

“Of course I was disappointed with the crash but I’m still really happy about scoring my first top 10 in the first race,” he said. “It was just a fantastic race. The bike felt amazing, I felt confident and I enjoyed every minute of it.

“In the second race, we had decided I wanted to get into the top 10 as early as possible before the frontrunners broke away. I didn’t get the best of starts so was trying to make up the ground when something happened. The riders in front were all queuing up and seemed to sit up and I had nowhere to go.

The rookie continues to flourish under the watchful eye of team manager Colin Wright….

“I was a bit gutted because I really felt like I could’ve bettered the 10th place in that race or at least equalled it, but I can’t be too down. Getting my first British Superbike top 10 is brilliant and I feel in a great position now to keep moving forward as the season moves on.

“We’re at Cadwell next which as everyone knows is my favourite round on the calendar, and I just can’t wait to get out there on a Superbike for the first time.

“I just want to say a massive thanks to Colin Wright, Martin Halsall and everyone involved within the Halsall Racing team. They’ve given me an amazing opportunity and an incredible package to work with and I want to keep repaying them with the best results I possibly can.”
