CHRISSY Rouse heads to Donington Park this weekend for round three of the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship – and with maximum points on offer, the Geordie is keen to turn his season around.
After being forced to retire from the previous race at Oulton Park earlier this month with mechanical issues, Rouse believes a recent test has helped him and the Morello Racing Kawasaki team make big improvements.
Now, he is eager to get back out on the squad’s ZX-10RR for a double-header race on Saturday and a further standard race on Sunday where he is confident he can finally get some strong results.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I’ve had such a tough start to the season but hopefully all our bad luck is behind us and we can have a good weekend at Donington,” he said.
“We tested there back in March at a No Limits race weekend and we had a reasonably good outing, but I think we’ve certainly made some improvements since then.
“Since the last race we’ve had a really positive test at Cadwell Park and I think we’ve made a good step forward with the bike. I think we’ve started to make really good progress with the Kawasaki.”
Rouse is looking forward to getting two bites of the cherry this weekend, with two races across two days and the opportunity to score well.
“We’ve got the long, two-part race of 22 laps each on Saturday and a standard race on Sunday. I’ve always loved the long races and it also means there’s a chance to get a nice haul of points, which is definitely what we need.
“I’m really excited. This weekend I want to be back up there fighting against the top lads and it would be great to be back on the podium.”
Rouse’s race weekend begins this Friday, May 24 with free practice, before qualifying and a two-part race on Saturday. The second, standard length race will take place on Sunday, May 26.
